8. Be Curious About Others & Improve Your Relationships in an Effective Way
Thursday Sep 14, 2023
Thursday Sep 14, 2023
Being curious about other people sounds simple, but it’s not easy. We have a tendency to hear what we want to hear, overexplain & under listen, & as a result, we continue to misunderstand & be misunderstood.
Today I share some practical takeaways to better understand the people in your life & make your personal & professional relationships even better.
Start by asking yourself why you do what you do, THEN get curious about others. Investigate why they do what they do withOUT using the word “why”. Then listen. Truly listen.
Most misunderstandings are due to differences in strengths, not differences in personalities as we generally assume. My friend, coach & the founder of YouMap®, Kristin A. Sherry, shares more in the Misunderstood Blog at myyoumap.com.
Kristin’s awesome, the blog is awesome, & YouMap® is awesome. Go to myyoumap.com & listen to Episode 2 of The DASH Mindset podcast to learn more! Work with me to do YOUR YouMap®, & learn more about yourself & others in the process.
Also…Follow Jackie Pelland & my friends at Slingshot25 on LinkedIn! Brilliant & hilarious…An amazing combo.

7. Be Curious with Yourself

Why do you do the things you do? Why do you make the choices you make? Do you know? Most of us don’t!
This week I’m sharing some examples of why I do some of things I do that others likely consider ridiculous. You might even be one of them, & that’s ok! What are you doing that others might think is ridiculous? Are your choices the right ones for you?

6. You’re Not Good at Some Things, & It’s Ok
Thursday Aug 17, 2023
Thursday Aug 17, 2023
This week, I’m sharing some of my crazy summer, including some of the stuff I’m just not good at...physical caregiving, in particular. I even have a definition for it now.
Being sub-par at some things doesn’t mean you suck. It means you’re human...which I’m guessing you are. So recognize & focus on the stuff you're good at. Own the fact that there's some stuff you're just not. Let go of those expectations of yourself, & know it's OK. It's likely in everyone's best interest, anyway.

5. A Life of Travel with Derek Baron (AKA Wandering Earl) - Part 2
Thursday Aug 03, 2023
Thursday Aug 03, 2023
Welcome to Part 2 of my conversation with Derek Baron, professional nomad & founder of Wandering Earl!
After graduating from college in 1999, Derek left home for what he expected to be a 3-month trip to Southeast Asia. Instead, he has been traveling the world non-stop since & has visited over 130 countries on 6 continents. He is the founder of the Wandering Earl.com travel blog & Wandering Earl Tours which offers a unique style of laid-back, small-group tours (that I highly recommend).
In this episode, Derek & I discuss:
Some of the unexpected imperfections of travel
His puzzle solving talents…his ability to recognize tour guests’ needs & rearrange behind the scenes
The importance of working with experts who provide spontaneous & unique local experiences
Being kidnapped by half-ass amateurs in Bangladesh
How bad things happen everywhere…especially if you yell at a bar
The affordability of living abroad & why the 50+ crowd is one of the fastest growing migratory segments
Considering your reason for travel & connecting with & learning from people who are already doing it
Expectation setting before travel
Traveling with a group whose style matches your own
My recommendation that he go to Poland…tomorrow
Adjusting to living in the States for the first time since 1999
Simple interior design…his bathmat dilemma & empty fruit basket

3. We’re Not Meant for Everyone or Everything
Thursday Jul 06, 2023
Thursday Jul 06, 2023
It’s easy to recognize when things are in the wrong environment or are being used differently than intended. But how about humans? That’s more difficult.
We’re far more complex than things. We’re harder to label. We fear not fitting in. We want to belong. So sometimes we try to force it without considering what makes sense for us or why. We make it more complicated than it needs to be. We think it has to be all or nothing, but it doesn’t.
What makes sense for you? What are you making more complicated than it needs to be?

1. My Story + What Do You Want Yours to Be?
Thursday Jun 08, 2023
Thursday Jun 08, 2023
In this episode, I share my journey & some of the significant moments that led me to coaching.
I’ve had a lot of questions along the way…What did I want to “be” when I grew up? Was this adulthood? When would I be done with my never-ending checklist? When I was dead? What was enough? Where was the meaning in all of it, & what did I want, anyway?
In a five-year research program, Harvard Business Review determined 95% of us believe we’re self-aware; however, only 10-15% of us actually are.
I finally realized I was in the percentage that didn’t know myself as well as I thought I did, & I had more choices than I recognized. So I took a step toward self-awareness & writing the story I wanted to tell.
If you ever question yourself & feel like you’re simply going through the motions of your life, you’ll relate. Listen in, & consider what you want your story to be.
